Love Illusion Happenings and Current Read

Last weekend I had my first interview about Love Illusion, including a little about  me on Fiction Dreams. It was a great experience and I explained what  inspired Love Illusion and some of the places in the book. Check out the interview to learn more.

This week I started writing some guest posts in preparation for the book blog tour for Love Illusion that will start in April. I have a few more to write until I am finished with the prep work. I have already completed all of the interviews. There will be giveaways, interviews, guest posts, and book reviews. I will post the blog tour schedule the closer that the time comes.  I am looking forward to receiving some great feedback during the book blog tour.

I am currently reading Revenge Wears Prada and hope to finish it over the weekend. I just finished reading The Devil Wears Prada  and I am enjoying the continuation of Andy’s journey. I can see the growth of Andy as a character in the sequel. The Plunge seems like a very realistic magazine in today’s society and something that I would like to read.

Happy Reading and Writing,

Studying The Craft: The Devil Wears Prada

I just finished The Devil Wears Prada yesterday and I enjoyed this book just as much as I enjoyed the movie, which happens to be one of my favorites. While reading this book I studied the craft of writing. I believe that writers should always study the craft and that there is always something to learn. By reading, writers are continually gaining useful information and learning new techniques.

I decided to divide what I was looking for into two categories. Using post-it tabs I went about pointing out specific things. The  green tabs are good examples of  details/descriptions and the purple tabs are  good examples of dialogue. Lauren Weisberger did a great job of demonstrating both of these techniques. She has a clever way of introducing dialogue so that the material will be fresh and interesting to readers.

I’m sure that over time Weisberger developed her writing voice and writing style,  but it didn’t come right away. It came with hard work and by her studying the craft of writing.

This is a great example of how Weisberger makes dialogue interesting. Elaboration is added between the responses, bringing the conversation between Andy and Christian to life. Andy’s reaction to meeting Christian is  also described. She is awed by being in his presence and knows his writing history.

This whole page is a great example of details and description. Here Weisberger describes how Andy dresses in comparison to the employees at Runway. She also describes her decision to start dressing better at Runway.

I can’t wait to read the sequel Revenge Wears Prada and see how Weisberger has grown as a writer.

Happy Reading and Writing,

Love Illusion Happenings and Book 2 Preparations

I am getting ready for  Love Illusion’s book blog tour to start next month with Chick Lit Plus Blog Tours. On the tour will be reviews, excerpts, interviews, guest posts, and even a giveaway. I just started working on answering the interview questions today and am having a lot of fun answering them. Love Illusion has been received well and it can only get better from here.

To learn more about Love Illusion visit my Pinterest board, which is dedicated to it.

Love Illusion can be bought on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I am planning for it to be available for order in paperback in May. My author cards arrived the other day and I plan to hand these out to those who are interested in learning more about my writings as an author. I designed them myself and I am pleased with the quality of the cards.

I started the preliminary notes for book 2 over the weekend. I don’t have all of the story just yet, but I am researching what I do know. Italy will be one of the main settings of the story. I am excited about this because I am fascinated with the beauty of Italy and hope to visit there myself one day.

For the preliminary notes and location notes I am using Evernote so they will be accessible on all of my devices at any time. If I am in the grocery store all I have to do is open up Evernote on my phone and start typing away. It will automatically be synced with all of my other devices. This way I have no worries about losing my notes  and it is effortless.

I hope that you are all having a great week so far. I am enjoying reading the book that resulted in a movie, The Devil Wears Prada. I will post my thoughts on it at a later date. It is definitely an entertaining read.

Happy Reading and Writing,
