November 2013 Reads

I read a lot of meaningful women’s fiction this month. Some authors were old and some authors were new ones that I discovered through twitter or amazon. The stories of the women in these books growing and jumping over obstacles were life changing . They would be life changing for you as well.

I was given There’s More to Life Than Cupcakes to review by the publisher. My review can be found here. I enjoyed reading this book and all of the changes that the main character went through.  It also included hobbies that I enjoy such as baking.

The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D. was a book that I listened to on audiobook. The friendship between the two women was so strong. The addition of a journal in this book also made it a fascinating read to me. It was a recommended weekend read here.

If you have ever wanted to go to San Francisco then Take A Look At Me Now is the book to read.  Miranda Dickinson does a great job of describing the city.  The storyline is even more wonderful. It’s great to see the main character realizing her dreams after a major setback. This book was also a recommended weekend read here.

The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax was the first book that I read by the author. I enjoyed the friendship of the four writers and how they all pulled together to help one of their friends out that needed them.

Those are my November 2013 reads. What books did you read this month?

Happy Reading and Writing,

Writing Motivators

Writing Motivators are simply things that keep me motivated, while working on my WIP. These particular things keep my creativity flowing and allow me to write, with it still being fun. Most of the time while writing these are the things that help me get through a writing session.

I love teas and have ever since I was a teenager. In my cabinets, there is even a special section for tea. If I have a good cup of tea I will put in at least an extra hour of writing without noticing. Currently my top two types of teas are black tea and white tea. A black tea that I am loving is a peach ginger tea from English Tea Shop. This tea shop is based in the UK, but they can be found on Amazon. A white tea that I am loving is the island mango and peach  tea from lipton. I originally bought this tea at  Target, but can no  longer find it there.

For a dessert tea I am loving the chocolate and roibos tea, also from English Tea Shop. This drink is like a hershey’s bar melted into a tea. I reserve this tea for days when I want a sweet treat without the calories.

At the moment my favorite Teavana teas are strawberry rose champagne and peach tranquility. My all time favorite Teavana holiday tea is white peppermint mocha.

Jazz Music

I am a huge jazz music fan and I would love to go to the Jazz Festival in New Orleans. I actually play the clarinet. Sometimes when I get writers block while writing I’ll go to iTunes radio and turn on the Smooth Jazz and Jazz Showcase channels. While listening to the music I gain writing ideas and jot them down in my writing notebook.

I love candles. Most of the time when I am writing I have a candle burning. The is something about the scent of candles that relax me and transport me  at the same time. Yankee Candle and Bath and Body Works are my favorite brands. Anytime that I can get yankee candles for buy 2 get 2 free, I do. My favorite yankee candle scent is vanilla cupcake. my favorite bath and body works scents are apple crumble and pumpkin caramel latte.

What are your writing motivators? Comment below and have a great weekend.

Weekend Book Recommendation: Take A Look At Me Now

Take A Look At Me Now by Miranda Dickinson is my weekend book recommendation for this week. This is Dickinson’s most recent book and I can’t say enough about it. It is written really well and the characters, even down to the supporting ones, are so dynamic.

The cover of the book is simply beautiful and it draws you in as well.

This book is mostly set in San  Francisco. After reading this book I want to board a plane to experience the city for myself.

You will root for the main character as she navigates the circumstances that have come upon her.

Go read this book. You won’t be sorry. It can be found on Amazon.

Happy Reading and Writing,

NaNoWriMo- Days 6-11 & WIP Update #2

The first full week of NaNoWriMo proved a little challenging for me. Not because I didn’t want to write, but because I was sick over the weekend. Luckily I wrote above the recommended word count on some days. Towards the middle of the week I only wrote about 500 words per day.

On Friday I participated in a few word sprints with Friday Night Writes on Twitter. Those are always so fun. It’s amazing to know how many words are written around the world during those.

Along with scheduling time to write I think that I did pretty well. I am enjoying all of the NaNoWriMo support and the writing community on twitter. If you would like to follow me I  can be found here on twitter . I appreciate all of my followers.

As far as my work in progress is concerned with the help of NaNoWriMo my word count has increased. It is my goal to use NaNoWriMo to further my WIP not to write 50,000 words. Right now I am at a little over 43,000 words of a solid plot written.

I feel like the characters in my book are some of my best friends because I have spent so much time with them through writing. I think that those who read the book will love how different the characters are.

I am going to start posting Love Illusion Facts on twitter, which will provide little sneak peaks of what the book is about. My first one was posted today.

I am in the process as of today to organize a book cover reveal on several blogs to start hopefully next month.

How are you doing in NaNoWriMo? Have a great week.

Happy Reading and Writing,

Weekend Book Recommendation: The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D.

I listened to this book on audiobook over a couple of days and I really enjoyed it. This book would be a great weekend read. Whether I was at the gym or cooking dinner, every chance that I got to listen to this book I took. It had all of the elements that I enjoy in a book. Family, friendship, and a journal.

Kate who was Elizabeth’s best friend inherits all of her journals, upon her instruction, after her death. Kate learned more about her friend than she every imagined. Through the journals she was able to escape into Elizabeths world any really understand her.

While on vacation Kate reads Elizabeth’s journal, while trying to reconnect with her husband and kids. They got into a routine and couldn’t seem to get out of it.

Ironically, Kate struggled with some of the same things that Elizabeth did, like juggling family and working.  The bond between the two woman was strong, but not as strong as Elizabeth thought it was.

Elizabeth had a secret that she was hiding, right up until her death. It is up to Kate to decide what to do with the journals in the end and who should see them.

If you are a fan on Dorothea Benton Frank or Liane Moriarty then you will enjoy this book. The Unifinished Work of Elizabeth D can be found on Amazon.

Happy Reading and Writing,

NaNoWriMo 2013: Days 1-4

This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo so I am going to recap every few days or so on my progress. When November 1 got here I was ready to go with my outline, Scrivener, and my computer.

I went to Barnes and Noble and typed out almost two thousand words without my effort. While people sitting near me talked of changing locations and the upcoming holidays I was in my own writing world.  I have already written most of my novel. I am just completing it during NaNoWriMo.

To get my NaNoWriMo days started I drink of a cup a tea in a cute mug, such as this Hello Kitty one. The hot tea wakes me up and focuses me for the day.  So far I have exceeded the average word count each day.

I have been documenting my word count each day by using this NaNoWriMo calendar, which is glued into my work in progress writing notebook/scrapbook The top number is the amount of words that I write each day and the bottom number is the word count total for the month of November so far.

To pace myself I’ll write half of my word count, take a break, and come back a little later to finish it up.

How are some of my fellow writers doing during NaNoWriMo. What are you doing to pace yourself during this process?

Happy Reading and Writing (NaNoWriMo On!!),

Book Review: There’s More To Life Than Cupcakes

Ellie who is the main character in this book is happily married and torn between impending  motherhood. She listens to the advice of friends about the situation as well as the readers of her blog on the subject.

While deciding on this life changing decision she takes a baking class as a favor for her best friend Lydia. Along the way she learns a lot about herself in the process.

I enjoyed a lot of things about this book. The aspect of baking in this book really intrigued me since baking is one of my favorite things to do during my free time. I liked taking the journey with Ellie through the baking class and how she learned a lot about herself and how she interacts with others through the process.

The book starts off a little slow with the introduction of several characters that add to the charm of the book. Ellie is going through self discovery in this book with a career at a magazine and as a married woman. She feels the pressure of family and friends to have a baby.

This book is an easy read and has a comical side to it. It has the elements of romance as well as comedy. This will keep you interested in the storyline throughout the book.

As woman there are many pressures on us of what is expected for our lives to be like. Eliie has to decided if she is going to live her life for her or for others.

The book can be found here on Amazon.
